Adjusting
It's been 15 days since this little bundle of joy started crying her guts out for us. She's a cutie of that there is little doubt but she is also a little baby with lots of needs. Regular feedings, regular diaper changes, burping, comforting, doctors visits, etc.
Kianna just had her first check up Thursday and the doc said she's doing just fine. Thanks to a good friend we found a great pediatrician near our home. He said Kianna has almost gained back all her original birth weight and she has grown half an inch since birth. This is all welcome news to her parents, of course.
He also remarked about how alert of a baby she is. I have nothing to compare that to because I avoid other people's children. I took his word for it but she does seem pretty aware of her surroundings. She really opens her eyes wide and takes a good look around when she's awake. See?
So how is the adjustment process going? I would say very well. We knew to expect big changes and so that really helped us to prepare.
Here's how it works on days when things work "the way they should": Wella takes care of baby starting around 1AM. I get a good night's sleep and get up to go to work. Wella's parents pop by mid morning to give her a break and some support. Wella sleeps during the day when Kianna is sleeping.
So then I finally get home around 6:30PM. At that time we have some dinner and spend some time together, Wella, Kianna, Sheena, and me.
Then Wella goes to bed and can sleep uninterrupted 'til about 1AM when it starts all over again. I can take care of baby just fine at night because I know how to feed her myself and anything else that comes up (pun intended!).
