Apologizing to your children.

On the way home today, I was listening to the Dennis Prager radio program. He told a story that I found very touching and poignant. He was making the point that by apologizing to your children after the parent has done something clearly wrong serves to make so many thing better than they otherwise would be.

He said that he rarely loses his temper with his children, perhaps only once a year because he tends to be a fairly easy-going parent. On one occasion he lost his temper with his youngest son.

His son couldn't sleep and came into Dennis' bedroom and said, "Daddy, you could have been angry a lot better".

Dennis was moved and walked over to his little 9 year old boy and hugged him and said, "You're right and I'm sorry".

They hugged some more and soon after his son went right to sleep. I didn't shed any tears while listening to this but I came close. I think it was a very important lesson that saying you're sorry when you should makes all the sense in the world and by no means could it lessen the image your children have of their loving parents.

~smacks Jason up side the head~ Grow up? Nonesense! What would be the point of that?

That penguin pic is hilarious. I think Dennis is one of those people who if there were no people around would have to teach penguins. Some people just have a need to teach others.

Do you listen to him? I really respect his opinions on so many issues.

actually never heard of him, does he broadcast over internet anywhere?

I've got a teacher I absolutely love on the radio, John MacArthur. He's an expository preacher that has a broadcast. My local radio station broadcasts on the internet, I assume that he could be caught on there, I should have a listen and let you know the specifics...

he's on 6:30-7:00 CST, the internet broadcast appears to be a straight stream of the current broadcast so maybe you can catch him

klvv.com and click "Listen Now" in the left frame.

Man, it's been streaming in the background here without interupption since I went to check it... not buffer or anything. I pity dialers. Thank you Father for DSL :)

I used to listen to John MacArthur during college! I listened to a local Christian radio station almost everyday and I would catch his teachings most of the time.

I remember I really liked his style. Didn't he have some trouble a little while back and voluntarily stepped down from the pulpit? I might be confusing him with another teacher. But I remember there was a prominant teacher who had an affair with a co-worker. A terrible thing to do, but I was very respectful of the stepping down and not trying to get away with it like it never happened.

I'm totally for healing and forgiveness when our own stumble but sometimes you get someone like Swaggart that is so vain that they refuse any discipline. But I digress.

You've got DSL, I've got cable. I was having some serious problems with my cable last year. I even ordered DSL I was so upset about it. BUT the cable guy found the problem and now it is SUPER FAST!!! It's operating at T1 speeds for me most of the time. It blows away my DSL so I'm going to cancel that and stay with cable.

It turned out there was a bad connector out at the pole where my cable feed was coming in. Go figure.

Dennis Prager is nationally syndicated so he might be on near you. His home station is KRLA 870 Los Angeles. I think they live stream his show at http://www.krla870.com/
