I tackled the Scroll Bar!

I have been reluctant to attempt scripting a scroll bar for a very long time now. But after thinking a bit lately about the slider object I had just completed, I realized a scroll bar was in reach. I finally got it! I have been using a scroll bar script from the good Doc Ozone for a few years now on my bio pages. But it was scripted a while back and some newer browsers were beginning to behave not so well with it. (I'm sure the Doc has an updated one) But I used the need to bring the bio pages up to date to help motivate my new scroll bar code. There are probably a few glitches left in it but I think it's really close to what it needs to be.

One of the other goals I have is to get *every* page on bugimus.com XHTML 1.0 strict compliant. Each of the bio pages are now so. The only exception to this goal will be an archive section that will be defined soon that contains a look back at all the stuff I've done. That's should be an interesting section to see how things began and how they progressed up to the present... scary too ;)

You can see the new scroll bar and bio pages it in action here:

NICE!

I have you beat tho for efficiency and elegance:

overflow : auto

:D

Yanking your chain! That's smooth as silk, you understand how things should work and make it so, well done again.

Cameron's done a pretty nice one over here if you like browsing such things

overflow: auto ?!?!? Oh no! That's way more efficient ;)

I'll tell you why I think it is still necessary for a dhtml version and that is I HATE ugly scroll bars. Every browser throws some awful looking scroll bar onto the page and there is currently no standard way of altering their appearance. I really wish there was a way to do it without having to write our own. I know the trend is to move away from dhtml scripting by many because it is just such a headache. But I still like the idea of building pages with lotsa personal control over the layout. If not for clients and such, then at least for my own fun. No one can take that part away from me. I can make my pages any way I want without worrying about the rest. Hmm... that almost sounds like a bit of a rant, eh?

Oh, and thanks for pointing out Drac's scroller, it's sweet. A while back I know he was working on some skinable dhtml windows too. That was looking quite cool.

"Phil, The Prince of Insufficient Light, is the ruler of Heck (for sinners whose transgressions aren't serious enough for Hell). He pops up about once a year to impose mild sanctions for mild sins. For example, once he punished Dilbert by making him eat lunch with the accountants."

Dilbert trivia...

A Dilbert fan, eh?

Having to type business buzzwords like Phil is telling her to do would be pretty harsh punishment I think. But I have run across people who actually think and talk in that terminology though... scary stuff!
